Data Dashboards

Welcome to the DJS Data Dashboard! This tool has been designed for sharing data at multiple points in the juvenile justice system. It includes youth involved in the juvenile justice system or detained in a DJS facility with a case in adult criminal court. The pages are overviewed below. You can also rea​d s​ome helpful hints​ on how to use the dashboards.

H​elpful hints on using Qlik dashboards

Some data labels may not be presented if the amounts are small. In a chart, you can hover your mouse over the bar or point you’d like to see, and the value will show. You can also hover over the top right corner of the chart and select the “Full Screen” icon with two arrows to maximize the size of the item.

Intake

The data presented in this section represent juvenile complaints referred to DJS Intake by citizens or law enforcement; it also includes technical violations of juvenile probation and cases that were transferred to juvenile court from adult court jurisdiction.

This section also shows the decisions made by DJS Intake staff, including which cases were diverted from prosecution (either resolved at Intake or diverted to Pre-Court Supervision) an​d which were referred to the State’s Attorney (“formaled”).

Detention

The data in this section present the average daily population of youth detained in DJS detention facilities. These include youth awaiting a court hearing (“Pre-D”), youth who have been committed and are awaiting placement in a treatment program (“Pending Placement”), and youth detained pending an adult court hearing that could result in transfer to juvenile court (“Adult Detention”).

Community Supervision

This page shows the average daily population of youth supervised in the community by DJS case managers. Probation and Community Aftercare supervision is court-ordered, while Pre-Court cases are diverted from court and supervised by DJS. Community Detention youth who are supervised or "on the box" as an alternative to detention are not included here in this initial version of the dashboard.

Committed Treatment

The data presented on this page represent the average daily population of youth committed by the juvenile court to out-of-home treatment programs. These include DJS-operated facilities and other contracted residential programs in Maryland and out of state.

Data shown here represent the proportion of DJS Intake complaints, pre-disposition detention admission, and committed admissions that are girls and that are youth of color.

Recidivism

This page contains the one-year recidivism rates of youth under court-ordered probation supervision and youth released from committed placement. Recidivism is reported across three outcomes: a new arrest, a new juvenile adjudication or adult conviction, and a new juvenile commitment or adult incarceration.
