Case Management
DJS provides continuous case management support, where – to the extent possible – a youth’s case will be assigned to and managed by the same case manager for the duration of court-ordered supervision. In the course of that case management, you and your child may interact with other DJS staff in coordination with your case manager.
Roles of DJS staff working with youth and families
Case Management Specialist (CMS)
This DJS employee is tasked with guiding youth and families through their involvement with the juvenile justice system. They will be the central point of contact throughout a youth's engagement with DJS. They are responsible for:
- Reviewing any complaints sent to DJS from the police or citizens
- Contacting you to schedule an intake meeting and assessments
- Helping you navigate court hearings and provide information to the court as requested
- Reviewing court orders with youth and guardians, if applicable
- Connecting you and your child to whatever services and resources you may need, as well as services ordered by the court
Case Management Specialist Supervisor (CMSS)
The CMSS directly supervises and oversees the CMS. The CMSS is responsible for:
- Approving key decisions of the CMS. This includes whether a case can be effectively resolved during intake or whether it is forwarded to the court.
- Tracking the progress of all supervised youth assigned to the CMS on the supervisor’s team.
Court Liaison
Some regions have case management specialists assigned specifically to present cases to the Judge or Magistrate during court. They work closely with your assigned Case Management Specialist.
Resource Specialist
This person serves as the coordinator for any treatment and services directly provided by DJS to youth under community supervision and those in residential facilities. They provide service recommendations for youth in detention as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Assessment and Staffing Team (MAST) assigned to your child’s case.
Regional offices leadership
There are six regional offices across the state overseen by a Regional Director.
Assistant Regional Director (ARD) manages the Case Management Specialist Supervisors, as well as manages the processes for intake, probation, and/or the aftercare office.
