Residential Programs

Most youth who interact with DJS remain in the community throughout their legal system involvement. In some cases, however, juvenile courts may order that a young person be removed from their home. In these cases, youth are placed either in:

  • A detention center at earlier stages of the court process while waiting for their court hearing or court decision
  • A committed treatment program later in the process, after a judge has found the youth “delinquent” (called "guilty" in the adult system)

DJS is dedicated to strengthening the quality of care provided to young people detained or in placement, expanding access to meaningful programming within facilities, giving youth opportunities to build new skills and preparing them for their return home.
